Poetry. The occasional silly diaryland update. Painfully self-conscious away messages.
Were I to get a tattoo tomorrow, I think it might read: Anathematization of the world is not an adequate response to the world.
Its from Donald Barthelmes Snow White and I had to look up the meaning of the world anathematization it means cursing. The more complete meaning of the quotation, when taken in context, is less simply beautiful than the statement alone. The statement is sandwiched between an episode in which the futility of modern human imaginings of what something better than our current condition would even be is pointed out and an episode in which the blind acceptance of life as-is because thats the way it seems supposed to be is ridiculed. Run ons!
Of course, no alternatives are proposed: we cant imagine better, we cant curse, and we cant accept: so what are humans to do?
I feel even Mr. High Post Modern Barthelme may be suggesting we should create. That oversimplification that it may be is beautiful. We create new art that is not new but old art with new eyes that are not new but trying.
I think deconstruction is beautiful in its persistent acceptance of its ultimate futility. We can never escape the system in which we live by attempting to unravel we rebuild. I experience Stockholm Syndrome in regards to my Prison House of Language and it feels so good.
I live a lot of my life under erasure. Jargony erasure!
